Who Would Coach?

You can say all you want about your dislike of Knicks coach Mike D'Antoni an that he doesn't preach defense, but in reality who is going to take over as head coach?

I will not answer that question, because I have not been venting about this guy needing to be fired due to a 3-game losing streak of a team that is still building it's chemistry. In fact, in games such as the win over the Heat a few weeks ago, we have witnessed glimpses of this team's defensive ability and seen that they can step up in big situations. The real issue is they only play defense when they WANT to. If it's a team under .500%, where the new-look-knicks are K-4, the team doesn't think about defense. It is truly absurd that they cannot play defense consistently. They can play it though, they can. Every time they suffer a loss like last night's 119-117 loss to the Pacers they literally should watch footage of their 91-87 win over the Heat, to realize how good they can play defense. They should watch footage of their blowout and defensive win over the New Orleans Hornets. Those games will motivate these players to step up on defense. I do believe that D'Antoni can be persuaded by players such as Chauncey Billups to start focusing more on defense. Maybe they already have convinced him and it just hasn't translated on-court yet. Keep in mind with 10 seconds left last night and down two, Carmelo drove to the hoop and tied the game with about 7 seconds remaining in the game. He could have dragged it down to the buzzer and went to OT, but he knew this team had to try and make a defensive stop. He knew thats the answer to improving. Unfortunately they gave it their best and still lost in the end.

However every time the Knicks win a game we love 'em and praise the trade, and every time they lose a game we criticize coach Mike D'Antoni and call for his head on a platter. I've heard plenty of it this morning that D'Antoni needs to be fired after this season. I do not agree necessarily, because unless they convince Phil Jackson to be the coach, I really don't see who is out there that can have an impact on this team's defense while maintaining their high-powered offense.

STAT & Melo Will Work, And Here's Why

So for weeks and months everybody in the Basketball world was basically saying that the Knicks HAD to get the trade done for Carmelo Anthony to be relevant again in the NBA, to bring life back to the Knicks fans and the Garden, to show everyone they were headed in the right direction.

So they finally complete the trade for Melo by giving up a few starters who are average at best, one of which has the ability to be like David Lee -- successful in D'Antoni's system and bum away from it -- I mean no offense, I love Gallo but you have to wonder if he's just a product of D'Antoni's fast-paced system. Luckily Denver runs a very fast offense as well so he should have a fairly comfortable adjustment. However, ever since the trade suddenly everyone is split on whether it was good, whether or not it will work out for the Knicks..... and I can't help but ask where this is all coming from?

It's quite simple. People want a reason to doubt. They need something to write; it's that easy to understand. Look through the glass my friends. Mike Francesa said a few days ago that everybody thought the same thing when the Knicks acquired Earl Monroe -- they believed that the Knicks would need to play with two basketballs for Earl & Walt Frazier to coexist.  But the thing that will transform this team is how Carmelo and Amar'e both change their games -- which is exactly what they do. They both knew that was the case before this trade went down. Prior to the trade Amar'e was all offense and no defense because he had to avoid getting into foul trouble since he knew the team needed him out there on the court from start to finish. With another big offensive presence, Amar'e can now focus on his defensive play.

Carmelo understand's that as well, as proven by the press conference to introduce him. The first thing Carmelo said at the conference was that they now had to focus on rebounding and defense. He acknowledged that the team has enough offensive ability to score 120 ppg, but to be successful they NOW have to focus on improving their defensive gameplay.Chauncey Billups reiterated that, by noting that it's not that simple to accomplish, but after they work at it fro 2 or 3 weeks their defense will improve drastically. Walt 'Clyde' Frazier said the other day said
"On the nights Earl was hot, I'd just keep giving him the ball.  These guys are both smart. They'll figure that out, too."
And that is exactly what Carmelo Anthony said.
"I'll just ride [Stoudemire's] coattails,"
There is no reason why these two cannot coexist. I honestly believe that Chauncey Billups will convince the coach Mike D'Antoni to emphasize defense a lot more. He'll probably tell him 'We can run the offense. We have that talent and that ability and the BBIQ to do that. What we need is for you to help us on the defensive end.'  I'd say to expect the Knicks to drop somebody and sign Earl Barron soon. I know they are signing Jared Jeffries but there is no way the Knicks can pass up on a solid rebounding center like Barron.

Is Earl Barron the Answer?

Everybody keeps emphasizing the Knicks' need for a big Center, who can play defense and grab rebounds. Last season the Knicks experimented with 28 year old Earl Barron for the last 7 games of the season. Unfortunately Barron decided to reject the Knicks' 2010-2011 offer which included no guaranteed money despite him averaging 10 points per game and 11 rebounds per game.

With the trade deadline less than 30 minutes away it's expected that the Knicks are pursuing a Center such as Marcus Camby, however it might just be easier for the Knicks to sign Earl Barron off of Free Agency and give him the starting role over Ronny Turiaf.

In 6 years and 5 seasons in the NBA, Barron has played only 101 games and started just 27 of those games. Barron is a set of fresh legs and the easiest option for the Knicks under Center. 7'0" and 245 lbs. Give him 25-30 mpg and he'll turn the Knicks into a team you do not want to mess with in the postseason rather than a team that is simply an "offensive" threat with 0 defensive ability. He'll improve their defense and rebounding, making them much more dynamic. Get it done Donnie!

Why Am I Still Uneasy about the Knicks?

First off, let me start by saying that I was all in for the Knicks to GO all in for Carmelo Anthony from day 1. As the season progressed and we started to hear that Carmelo only wanted to be a Knick I began to preach patience and wait until the offseason despite CBA uncertainty. I firmly believed at the time that if he wants to play with us, he'll take less money. If he wanted CP3 with us, he would take less money so we could afford the tandem of 3. But as New Jersey began to start forking over first round draft picks one after the other and Melo clearly being uncertain about losing the money (despite easily making up for it through endorsements in the Media capital of the World), I turned back to my original belief that it was now or never, don't let anything hold you back.

Then the world of the Knicks blew up in our faces. It appeared inevitable that the Knicks, with days to go, would acquire Carmelo Anthony, and then Frank Isola of the NY Daily News dropped the bombshell that Isiah Thomas was working from the outside to get the deal done. Quite frankly, I don't necessarily buy into it. I feel he influenced James Dolan to give up a little more, but overall Donnie gave in as well and they were all on board. If Frank had kept his mouth shut, we would have given up a ton and would be blaming/praising Donnie Walsh instead of criticizing Dolan & Zeke.

As for the team, yeah, it's tough to part with Danilo Gallinari & Raymond Felton, but quite frankly they are both replaceable as long as you draft smart. Normally I don't agree with what Mike Francesa says but he made 100% sense today -- when you have the opportunity to either bring a superstar to NY or send him off to NJ, you gotta bring him in. Danilo Gallinari should not be in the way; Raymond Felton should never be in the way; and of course Timofey Mozgov who wasnt in the rotation 1 month ago, almost certainly shouldn't be the breaking point. When a player of Carmelo's ability can drop 27 ppg in 16 playoff games in 1 postseason, you HAVE to get him if he's out there. If he WANTS to be on your team, you HAVE to get him! There is no "This is a bad trade" or "they gave up too much". Because Felton was a 2-year contract and nothing more was expected. Gallinari would have been on the bench getting 20 mpg behind Carmelo and Wilson Chandler was not going to play 8 mpg behind Melo & Gallo. He was going to be a Free Agent, no doubt. Anthony Randolph was in D'Antoni's doghouse and you never get out of the doghouse unless there are injuries, and Eddy Curry will never step on a court unless he drops 30 lbs. This was a deal they HAD to get done.

This is not a trade to set us up for now, or even next year. It's one more step in the right direction for 2012-2013 Season. We want Chris Paul. He wants to be here. Deron Williams has hinted he wants to be here. If the big-shot owners get what they want in the new CBA then I guarantee the Knicks WILL get him. However, what worries me is not whether or not we can get a new PG. It is not whether or not we can build around the stars, and get a sizeable, defensive, rebounding Center. It is whether or not this was all for nothing, and the reason for that is we have absolutely no idea whether or not Mike D'Antoni's system can bring a Championship. I mean holy smokes he had so much talent in Phoenix for so many years but could never lift that team all the way because he preaches 0 defense. He does not focus on it at all, and for years it has been proven that you MUST have defense to win a championship.... but there's always a first time for everything, correct? Francesa spoke the truest statement of all -- In the 70s, nobody believed Walt "Clyde" Frazier and Earl "The Pearl" Monroe could coexist on the Knicks for even one game... and what they did was defy all the doubters, create some of the most beautiful teamwork the NBA has seen, and brought the Knicks their 2nd and last NBA Championship.

Maybe D'Antoni will prove us wrong, but until he does I will always have this doubt in my head as to whether or not all the contracts being moved and acquiring 2 or 3 superstars was all for nothing. And I guarantee you if in 8 years we sit here and discuss how D'Antoni failed to bring the Knicks a Championship, we'll all sit here and say "2005.... Phil Jackson was turned away..." Because even though it's doubtful, if Phil had been the coach, who knows if he'd be the coach still and be looking to NOT retire from the NBA. Because with Melo & Amar'e, give him a decent center and a formidable bench and he WILL deliver the championship. Not to take anything away from D'Antoni, but no matter who is on the roster over the next 2 years I will have what I like to call "limited optimism". Donnie Walsh & James Dolan did what they had to do. If the Knicks hold onto Walsh for one more year, I believe he can put the right pieces around Carmelo & Amar'e. Veterans will take minimum to play with these two, that's for sure. If Walsh can do his part next, then it's all up to Mike D'Antoni to prove it once and for all that his system can work. Because a 1-2-3 of Chris Paul, Carmelo Anthony and Amar'e Stoudemire might be the best offensive threesome possible in the NBA today. It can be faster and equal or better to Miami... but D'Antoni has to man up to his words and make it happen. I give him 3 more years. If he can't deliver by then and somebody else is out there who they feel CAN and HAS delivered, then drop his ass and bring home the Gold.

The Nuggets are Crazy

Today's latest report out of the New York Post suggests that according to a league source debriefed on the Nuggets/Knicks trade discusisons that the Nuggets made a bizarre and pathetic offer to the Knicks. Below I have listed what the offer was and broke it down as best as I could:

Denver Receives Age MPG PPG RPG APG Denver Giveth Age MPG PPG RPG APG
F Danilo Gallinari 22 34.8 15.9 4.8 1.7 PG Chauncey Billups 34 32.3 16.5 2.5 5.3

C Timofey Mozgov 24 13.4 4.0 3.1 0.4

New York Receives Age MPG PPG RPG APG
SF Carmelo Anthony 26 35.5 25.2 7.6 2.8
PG Chauncey Billups 34 32.3 16.5 2.5 5.3

Minnesota Receives Age Notes
C Eddy Curry (Expiring Contract) [Salary Cap Reasons] 28 NOTE: Player has played 10 Games this Season. No stats posted
PF Anthony Randolph 21 NOTE: Player has played 10 Games this Season. No stats posted

As you can see, it's very understandeable to want a lot for a star player who is very capable of being so versatile and dynamic that he can turn you from a contender to a serious threat. However, it is irresponsible to demand all of the young talent on a team and expect them to break up their "farm" and destroy their bench depth. If the Knicks were to go through with this exact proposal, which they clearly have stated they will not, they will be stuck with the following players:

Starters:
PG - Chauncey Billups
SG - Toney Douglas
SF - Carmelo Anthony
PF - Amar'e Stoudemire
C - Ronny Turiaf

Bench:
PG - Andy Rautins
SG - Bill Walker
SG - Roger Mason Jr.
SF/PF - Kelenna Azubuike
SF - Shawne Williams

That is not something the Knicks nor any team would ever pull the trigger on -- it would leave them in a state of utter disarray. They'd become the laughing stock of the league this season -- not next season seeing as they'd be able to fix gaps on the bench during the offseason.

Elsewhere I read that the Nets are "Not a Player" for Carmelo Anthony despite earlier reports that the Nuggets reached out to New Jersey to try and make a trade.

The two easiest assumptions to make from this fiasco are:

1. The Nuggets want to spite Carmelo Anthony so much that they are willing to let him walk to the Knicks in the offseason, and receive absolutely nothing in return. There's no point in hoping the new CBA allows a Franchise Tag because, well, why keep somebody who wants out so badly he will demand a sign and trade to just one team?

2. Nets General Manager Masai Ujiri has absolutely no idea what he is doing.... plain and simple. If the man screws this up for the Nuggets fans he will be chased into the mountains by an angry mob. For christ's sake, he had the perfect package in place from the Nuggets about 1 month ago and then demanded more from them, ultimately forcing Mikhail Prohkorov to pull the plug -- and say what you want about "oh they gotta go after him!", Mikhail is a smart business man -- he knows when somebody is f-ing with him and he pulled the plug before he was made to look like a fool for working so hard to make a trade for Carmelo and then finding out face-to-face that Carmelo would refuse to sign an extension in New Jersey.

Pre-Evaluating Mets 2011 Season

What's the best mindset to go into this season with if you're a Mets fan? Low expectations, and I mean rock-bottom low. Act like you're a Royals fan and watch the Minor League games because that's what your team gets in return for their stars that they can't "afford" anymore. Just a crop of more future stars that you get to watch play in the MLB for Kansas City for about 4 years and then be shipped off so you're club can maintain it's $28M payroll and cash in a nice $30M profit annually of TV revenue alone.

The Mets have a lot of potential, and I use that term loosely. They aren't a team to beat, but on the contrary they are a team that has to beat those who are the team to beat. Yeah, very simple knowledge I guess but you'd be shocked how many people have told me they don't get what I mean by "They are't a team to beat." You have good stars and a $140M payroll. Players like David Wright, Carlos Beltran, and Jason Bay can all be exceptional and productive as long as they remain healthy. What matters most is how the new rotation guys will pan out and how the spring training competition at 2B will result. The Mets need Daniel Murphy to win that job. They do not need a young player coming from AA making a "splash" and end up spending 3 months starting and batting a .192 average with 0 HRs, 9 RBIs and 74 strikeouts vs 11 walks. They need someone like Murphy who has the potential bat but just needs the experience. He's been unfortunate to be thrown in LF, which was never his strong position, then to platoon at 1B, and now have to learn how to play 2B. And evidently I recall telling people 1 year ago that Daniel would be best suited at 2B due to the lack of talent at that position throughout the entire league and that he fit the body type to play that position.

I read one scout's remarks of Jason Bay's swing in 2010 where he really struggled to hit the long ball, and the Scout basically said that he was bringing his hand more over the top and probably was trying to hit for average while still maintaining most of his power. Look, if my team is paying you $16M I don't care if you bat a .240 average. If you can hit 30+ home runs and drive in 110 RBIs I'm perfectly happy with you as the cleanup hitter.

Similar thing goes for Beltran and Reyes. Both are good leaders and really bring the team together, when they are healthy. Reyes needs to just unleash the beast from within and go on a killing spree out there just stealing every base, stealing home plate, making great defensive plays, etc. If he can get on track during this contract-year, he can really give this club a solid shot of contending for the Wild Card. Beltran has to stay healthy, move to RF so he keeps his legs a bit fresher, and it'll allow him to bat .280 and maybe hit 20-24 HRs, which is all I ask of him.

Now it comes down to pitching, which I will admit I am not worried about at all. You have veterans like Capuano and Young competing for back-end of the rotation spots, and I really hope that young gun Dillon Gee gets the #5 spot, with young getting the #4 spot, and Capuano ending up in the rotation. I mean, with that repaired shoulder who knows how durable his arm is. I'd prefer to see him on a limited basis unless he really proves something in ST. Pelfrey, Dickey and Niese need to just do what they did last year. The Mets actually had a remarkable team ERA last season but lost so many games due to a lack of offense. If they can provide solid innings and a team ERA under 3.80, they can easily make a run for the Wild Card. Also, keep in mind they struggled to find a replacement closer for K-Rod last season, so having him back and healthy will be a major relief. Say what you want about him and how much he scares you, but he was excellent for the most part last season.

Lastly, it comes down to how Terry Collins, the new manager, runs things. Last year players like Francouer busted balls after being traded about how the players on the Mets lack seriousness as they would sit around the clubhouse a few hours before a game and listen to music or play card games. Collins is a tough-nosed guy and will not tolerate that bullshit. He's going to crack down and let them know how good they are and that they are only good if they take shit seriously for a change.

People are Disgusting

ESPN - The NFL has offered money, tickets, merchandise and more to roughly 400 fans who had to give up their seats at the Super Bowl. It might not be enough.
Approximately 1,000 fans sued the NFL, the Cowboys and owner Jerry Jones on Wednesday saying they were deceived by not getting seats or received inadequate seats. The federal lawsuit, filed in Dallas, alleges breach of contract, fraud and deceptive sales practices.
"We think that this is a pretty straightforward matter," said Michael Avenatti of Eagan Avenatti which is representing the fans, according to the Pittsburgh Post-Gazette. "People did not obtain what they were told they were going to get."
The lawsuit seeks $5 million in actual damages for the plaintiffs -- but that number can be tripled under the state's trade law -- and unspecified punitive damages, according to Bloomberg.
The league initially said Monday those fans would get $2,400 -- three times the face value of the ticket -- and tickets to next season's Super Bowl. The fans also were allowed on the field after the game and given merchandise and food.
On Tuesday, the NFL added a second option: They can choose to attend any future Super Bowl instead of being limited to the 2012 game and receive round-trip airfare and hotel accommodations. If fans choose that option, they will not get the $2,400. They can wait until after the conference championship games each season to see whether their favorite team reaches the Super Bowl.
If fans choose the first option of next year's game plus the $2,400, the ticket is transferable, which means it can be sold on the secondary ticket market. It won't be transferable in the other option.
Some fans who were moved want compensation as well. Mike Dolabi said that when he paid for his seat license at Cowboys Stadium, he was promised "the best sightlines in the stadium" for the Super Bowl, according to Bloomberg.
Instead, some fans received "temporary metal fold-out chairs" in an attempt to break the Super Bowl attendance record, according to the complaint.
"The NFL and Jerry Jones sold something to fans they weren't able to deliver, and they knew they weren't able to deliver it," Avenatti said, according to Bloomberg.

This is becoming a joke now. They made a mistake, and have offered more than enough compensation for their screw up, and yet the fans still want to suck more money from the NFL and the Cowboys.  I mean holy shit, Triple the value of the tickets refunded, they were allowed on the field afterwards and were given merchandise and food, AND are being given free tickets to next years Super Bowl.

Take your goddamn PROFIT from their mistake and let it go already. I honestly hope at this point the NFL and the Cowboys win the lawsuit and the greedy fans get nothing.

NBA Latest -- Knicks Discussing 3-Team Deal for Carmelo Anthony -- Nuggets & Timberwolves

ESPN NY -- The Denver Nuggets and the New York Knicks are discussing a three-team trade that would make forward Carmelo Anthony a Knick before the Feb. 24 trade deadline, according to league sources.
In the proposed trade, New York would send Anthony Randolph and Eddy Curry to Minnesota and the Timberwolves would send Corey Brewer and a first-round pick to Denver. Denver would also receive Wilson Chandler from New York.
The deal is not expected to happen until the middle of this week at the earliest, and one source said it could drag out until the trade deadline. Denver, which has been exchanging proposals with the Knicks for the past couple weeks, is weighing other options.
With teams aware of Anthony's desire to play in New York, the Nuggets' choices are limited. With little chance of signing Anthony long-term, few clubs are willing to send valuable assets to Denver.
If the trade with New York and Minnesota goes through, Anthony would be in line to receive a three-year, $65 million contract extension as part of the agreement in what is known as an extend-and-trade.
Since Anthony's preference to play for New York is known, there is some sentiment within the Knicks organization to hold off on trading for him and wait until he becomes a free agent this summer. Such a move would enable them to keep their young assets.
But owner James Dolan has been pressing team president Donnie Walsh to trade for Anthony before the deadline, according to sources.
"Dolan is really pressuring Walsh to get Melo, but Denver has been vacillating back and forth," one of the sources said.
A trade to New York would end the season-long saga that began last summer when Anthony refused to sign the contract extension with the Nuggets.
Late in the preseason, reports of a potential four-team deal with New Jersey, Utah and Charlotte that would make Anthony a Net surfaced.
But league sources say the deal was overblown and New Jersey was actually leaking the story in an effort to pressure Denver's new front office regime of Josh Kroenke and Masai Ujiri into making a deal.
Last month, reports of another potential trade of Anthony to New Jersey surfaced, this time involving the Detroit Pistons. That deal was close to being agreed upon, but Anthony was reluctant to sign the three-year, $65 million extension with New Jersey.
Anthony agreed to meet with the Nets but owner Mikhail Prokhorov called off his club's pursuit of Anthony in a news conference a day before the scheduled sit-down was to take place.

BOOM Baby! That's how you do it in New York, motherfuckers! You know the guy only wants to play with you, you have all these young players, and what do you do? You wait it out and give up Fat-Ass Eddy Curry, Wilson Chandler (who would play the bench behind Melo and Gallo) and F Anthony Randolph who will probably never play a 20 minute game under D'Antoni. You read that correctly. No Landry Fields. No Danilo Gallinari. No Shawne Williams. No problem!

Anyhow, I figured I'd show people what the current lineup is like and how that would most likely look with this Carmelo Anthony deal. Note: Nothing is imminent. Nothing is locked in. Names could be wiped off, and names could be added. Let's hope Donnie doesn't budge with Fields and Gallinari.

PG - Raymond Felton.
SG - Landry Fields
SF - Carmelo Anthony
PF - Danilo Gallinari
C - Amar'e Stoudemire

Idk, what do you guys think? I think -- That looks like the lineup of 1 of the teams in the 2011 Eastern Conference Finals.

Timeline Set for B&B Return

I've known about this for months because I'm fucking awesome, but I'll inform anyone else out there on Twitter that it's official -- MTV is scheduled to bring back Beavis & Butt-Head this summer thanks to creator Mike Judge.

The real questions on most people's minds are, will it be the same and will they even use music videos?

To answer those questions -- Judge agreed only to bring back the show if it was to be written and produced the same way it was originally done in the 90s. It will not be digital, not be 3D -- just whatever crappy way it was originally done. But hey, it worked, and it'll still work.

As for the Music Videos, I can't answer that. At first thought you'd think yeah of course hey will use music videos. But once that thought creeps through your brain and sits in for about 5 minutes you suddenly realize "When the **** does MTV still play Music Videos?" Now all of a sudden you are confused out of your damn mind. If they do not use Music Videos, the logical alternative would be clips of MTV Reality Shows. That was the genius behind the original stint for the series, to open people to the music videos by having two idiots make fun of the videos. It can work easily and more beautifully with reality shows.

I'll leave you with this final transcript I just wrote in about 15 seconds:

[Begin Scene]
(Beavis & Butt-head sitting on couch watching Jersey Shore)
Butt-head: Ehuh ehuh ehuhuhuh uhhh where's Metallica??
Beavis: Hmmm.. I don't know. Maybe they're going to arrive later and do these chicks.
Butt-head: Ehuh yeah, those chicks are sluts.
(Beavis & Butt-head laugh)
[End Scene]

Selig Urged Alderson into Mets -- Is this a Good Thing?

Last night new Mets GM Sandy Alderson spoke to reporters about the current fiasco surrounding Fred Wilpon, Sterling Equities and the lawsuit recently brought against them from the trustee collecting money owed from Bernie Madoff's mess. As most of you know, the Mets are owned by Fred Wilpon and Fred withdrew nearly $575M from his account with Madoff just weeks prior to the government kicking in Madoff's door.

The Wilpons had been working closely with Bernie Madoff for over two decades, seeing him as a genius and a friend, and always saw a profit. Little did they know this was not the same for everyone else who invested in Madoff's "geniusness", some of which were close to the Wilpon family. Certainly Fred Wilpon would not have put his family and friends in this kind of situation had he known the severity of Bernie Madoff's actions, however I think it's pretty obvious they began to uncover dirty little secrets within for a few months leading up to Madoff's arrest, and their failure to give back the fraudulent money has them in a terrible situation.

Now because of their screw up, the Wilpons are looking for one or more potential financial partners who would purchase approximately 20-25% of the Mets -- this way, the Wilpons still own about 70-80% of the team. However, one has to wonder how serious this is and what Bud Selig's involvement could potentially mean for Mets fans down the road.

As a Knicks fan, I'm well aware of fans being disappointed, although I am also aware of how quickly a smart man can turn things around. Figure this for example -- Sandy Alderson (remember him? I mentioned him at the beginning) said yesterday that essentially he did not want the Mets GM job this fall, mainly due to the fact he already had a job for the MLB Front Offices and working for them down in the Dominican Republic. He said that Commissioner Bud Selig "urged" him to interview for the job, because as many people in baseball operations understood the Mets were heading into disaster mode as we all knew about their investments in Bernie Madoff's ponzie scheme.

As a Knicks fan, I have seen how Donnie Walsh took the garbage put forth by Isiah Thomas' reign of terror at MSG and brought them back to glory, producing a roster consisting of Amar'e Stoudemire and young guns who have a world of potential, while also giving them room to invest in other potential vital superstars such as Chris Paul and Carmelo Anthony. He has brought them back to being contenders, and it is all thanks to NBA Commissioner David Stern's involvement in convincing Knicks owner James Dolan to fire Isiah finally and bring in James Dolan. His involvement has turned the franchise around and as long as James Dolan sticks to what is working (renew his contract instead of trying to bring Isiah back), the team will be serious contenders next season. I have to believe that Bud Selig's involvement in Alderson's hiring sets up a very similar story -- taking a popular team down in the dumps and bringing back hope. I believe Alderson has the ability to establish a younger, cheaper team while retaining the core members such as David Wright and Jose Reyes, so long as they continue to produce, while lowering the team's payroll and investing in a stronger Minor League farm system.

I also believe that what could be unsealed on February 9th about the lawsuit brought against the Wilpons could either make or break the fans, however it will not make or break Alderson and the organization. Alderson is so knowledgeable in the secrets behind moneyball that he can apply that strategy to bringing in the proper players for less money over the next 4 years, while also reviving the club's minor league affiliates. If the information we discover on the 9th is worse than we expected, I think it is safe to assume that Commissioner Bud Selig had knowledge of the potential severity for the club based on what he learned from the Wilpons and that he made the right move. If the lawsuit isn't so bad, well then, maybe he made the right decision in Alderson being able to change up the roster, but was not influenced for the club's financial reasons.

Time to Take America Back

Been getting lazy the last few days especially with all this snow. Back to the books my friends.

You know, I'm getting kind of sick of the lack of attitude in this country, it just seems like nobody has any balls. Look, I'm all for being a damn boy scout everywhere you go, but sometimes it's good to do something out of the ordinary and show people whose boss. Like for instance, every where I go I hold the door open for somebody behind me. Common courtesy, right? Well, for once I'd like to be walking up to to the local Movie Theater and see somebody slam the door in front of someone's face. I mean it would be classic to see the expression on that person's face after they just got the door slammed in front of them. I mean, any movie theater has about 6 or 8 doors to enter or exit through, and there's always 8 people entering the place going through just two doors. Like seriously, it's time to start utilizing the other doors. So my assignment for anybody reading this is to pick a day and jut do something you normally don't do -- do the exact opposite. Slam the door in someone's face, DON'T hold the elevator for somebody, and trip someone out on the street and laugh at 'em. Time to take back America mother fuckers.

Since When did Light Bend Matter?

LiveScience -- Light can twist matter, according to a new study that observed ribbons of nanoparticles twisting in response to light.
Scientists knew matter can cause light to bend – prisms and glasses prove this easily enough. But the reverse phenomenon was not shown to occur until recently.
The researchers assembled strings of nanoparticles, which are tiny clumps of matter on the scale of nanometers (one nanometer is one billionth of a meter). In a darkened lab, the scientists linked nanoparticles together into ribbons. At first the nano ribbons were flat, but when a light was shone on them, they curled up into spirals.

The discovery was so novel, the researchers were skeptical of their own results at first.

"I didn't believe it at the beginning," said lead researcher Nicholas Kotov, an engineer at the University of Michigan. "To be honest, it took us three and a half years to really figure out how photons of light can lead to such a remarkable change in rigid structures a thousand times bigger than molecules."

The surface of the nanoparticles in this experiment were made of cadmium sulfide. To begin with, they had a slightly negative electromagnetic charge. But when photons, or particles of light, hit the nanoparticles, their energy excited electrons on the nanoparticles, causing chemical reactions that made them even more negatively charged. Since two negative charges repel each other, the nanoparticles began to repel more strongly.

"What's happening is a layer of nanoparticles starts repulsing from the others, so it creates mechanical stress, and in order to release this stress the ribbon twists itself," Kotov told LiveScience. "It's very much like what's happening when you stretch a Christmas ribbon on a gift box and from the flat ribbon it becomes a spiral."
This spiral structure, he said, is very important for optics and could lead to the development of new materials for a variety of technologies.

Kotov and his team detail their findings in the March 17 issue of the journal Science.

So am I the only one that is fucking confused? This was posted 10 months ago on Livescience under "strange news". "Strange"!!!... this is a fucking breakthrough! We should have billboards posted up informing people of this shit, documentaries at AMC Theatres explaining this crap and the possible consequences. Are they editing Science textbooks that previously said "Matter can alter light however it is impossible for light to alter matter." Otherwise, our kids are going to look like jackasses at college when the little 17 year old Japanese kid starts turning on machines and fucking melts a testtube with a beam of light.

This is not strange news; this is a breakthrough that completely throws out half of the shit I learned in Physics class senior year in High School.

Since being out of High School for 2 years and taking 0 science courses in Community College, I've learned more than I learned in 12 years of science throughout High School -- I've learned that in some lake out west they discovered a whole new form of life that changes how life is created as we know it, and now this shit.

Iranians Fight Against Love!!

NY Daily News-- The party poopers over in Iran have banned the production of Valentine’s Day gifts and any promotion of the day celebrating romantic love to combat what it sees as a spread of Western culture, Iranian media reported.
The Feb. 14 celebration named after a Christian saint is not officially banned but hardliners have repeatedly warned about the corruptive spread of Western values. Under Iran’s Islamic law, unmarried couples are not allowed to mingle.
The printing works owners’ union issued an instruction on the ban, imposed by Iranian authorities, covering gifts such as cards, boxes with the symbols of hearts and red roses.
“Honouring foreign celebrations is the spread of Western culture,” said the union’s head, Ali Nikou Sokhan, ILNA news agency reported. “Our country has an ancient civilisation and various days to honour kindness, love and affection.”

Yeah... by covering up their women's faces, not letting them really do anything other than breed little future soldiers of Iran and make their man a fucking sandwich. That's how you emphasize true love, ya miserable bastards.

Also, looks like February 14th is the wrong day to try to nail a complete smokeshow stranger in Iran.

Would You Buy This?

Charlie Sheen Saga Continues -- Way to Ruin the Fun

Just when I thought Charlie Sheen was becoming the greatest male role model of our generation, everything came crashing down to Earth because nobody understands whats so great about getting jacked up on Vodka and Cocaine and banging the shit out of hot pornstars and models.

According to TMZ, our beloved Charlie has checked himself into Rehab on Friday after nearly dying during one of the greatest benders of all time which included paying one of the pornstars $30,000 to join his "porn family" and that earlier in the week he also discussed paying a neighbor $1,000,000 to use his mansion while the neighbor was on vacation for 4 months.

Get better Charlie. When you have as much money as you do, you don't need cocaine and alcohol poisoning to have a porn family.

PS. Isn't it pretty hilarious that Lindsay Lohan is concerned for Charlie? Isn't she like the last person you'd want drug and alcohol advice from? Because in all fairness, she'd probably suck his dick for a snort and a Bentley.

TMZ Hates him, but we Love Him. Rock On Charlie Sheen!

NY Magazine - You didn't think Charlie Sheen was going to stop with a bender at the Plaza with a porn star did you? This time, in the rock-bottom mad libs that is Charlie Sheen's life (vessel for housing cocaine + name of nubile porn star who will later express surprise at how events unfolded + hospital visit + poorly fabricated cover story), the actor was partying with a designer "briefcase full of cocaine" and multiple porn stars at his home in Beverly Hills when things took a turn for the worse. Paramedics were called, and Sheen was rushed to Cedar-Senai to treat "severe abdominal pains," which were caused by a hiatal hernia. Kacey Jordan, a 22-year-old adult-film star (a different blonde than his reported favorite, Bree Olson, AVN-award winner for best anal 2008) stumbled against a wall as she gave TMZ a "blow-by-blow" of last night's party. "When I first saw him, he was just fucking wasted out of his mind, which I was trying to get to that point too. Trust me." Oh, we do. As Jordan describes it, it was more of a Gucci messenger bag than a briefcase, from which the "professional"-looking dealer dumped out "five K- balls, huge like the size of my fist; we're talking twenty grand I swear in coke," which Sheen proceeded to smoke from a green pipe as he screened selections from his extensive X-rated film collection in the theater room before recruiting Jacobs to be the blonde missing from his entourage. She agreed because, "I want a blue Bentley. The other girl got one, it's proof." Because it's Charlie Sheen, he called a reality-show plastic surgeon when the medical trouble started. Dr. Paul Nassif, husband of the Real Housewives of Beverly Hills star Adrienne Maloof-Nassif. Well, she is the show's one calming influence. The couple, who called 911, told People, "We did receive a call from Charlie's house this morning, asking for medical assistance and advice." On Conan earlier this week, John Cryer quipped, "I'm checking TMZ, as I do every day to know if I have to go to work at all." Starting at 2:58, watch Duckie explain why it doesn't seem odd when Charlie Sheen tells you someone stole his car and drove it off a cliff. Twice.
I don't know why everyone is saying this man has hit rock bottom and that he needs to go to Rehab. As far back as I can remember, Charlie Sheen has always been like this and I'm not quite sure what all the fuss is about? I have to believe it's because his marriages are over and he's not covering his partying as well as he used to. He's probably been boozing, snorting, smoking and knee-high in pornstars for 15 years but we're just finding out about it more frequently now so we're all bugging out. I can understand being upset about the cocaine parts of these issues -- I'm against hard drugs like that. But people also get on his case for "4-way 'epic benders'". He's a man, and 99.9% of straight men would give up everything in their lives to have an 'epic bender' with 3 pornstars, including one that was awarded Best Anal in 2008.

Live Free or Die Hard, Charlie Sheen takes that literally. God Bless Charlie Sheen.

P.S. Whose more awesome? High Hefner or Charlie Sheen? I've always thought it was High Hefner but right now I think Charlie has made up some ground.

Double P.S. - I'd have to list my top 3 awesome guys in terms of drugs and ass as: 1. Hugh Hefner 2. Charlie Sheen 3. Tiger Woods

Back and Better than Ever

Came back from a skiing trip in Aspen this past Saturday. Got to admit, the trip was phenomenal. Anyhow, I'll try to upload some photos to facebook and the blog later today if I can find my transfer cable.

I then spent the next two days at wakes and a military funeral for my recently deceased Uncle who was in the Air Force. A little tough, but I didn't know him that well so I guess it didn't really weigh me down at all. But with all the traveling and time out in the cold, I've been sick the past few days and thats the primary reason I haven't updated the blog throughout the week -- not that it matters, nobody really follows it yet ;)

Now, to try and spice things up here and attract more followers expect more posts each day, and lots of beautiful women as I start crankin' out galleries of amazing chicks. I'll be starting up the "Babe of the Day" with at least 8 pictures minimum, and I'll try to keep up to date with funny news stories, a few serious stories, and so much more awesome stuff.

And to start off a lifetime of the greatest female ass and tits show you'll ever see, I must post the gayest poster I ever saw while on my trip in Aspen a week ago.

Knicks Should trade Anthony Randolph - Melo or No Melo

It's become pretty obvious to me over the last 3 days that the New York Knicks should trade 21 year old Forward Anthony Randolph before the trading deadline -- and they should trade him whether or not they believe they can make a trade for Carmelo Anthony.

Anthony Randolph is an interesting player that is highly pursued by other teams around the NBA, including the Minnesota Timberwolves and the Indiana Pacers. The Pacers expressed heavy interest in the young promising forward last summer, reportedly offering the Knicks a 1st round Draft pick for 2011, however team President Donnie Walsh has been firm with his belief in building Randolph over the next two years into being a key part of the team. Unfortunately Donnie has to battle it behind the scenes with coach Mike D'Antoni, who has Randolph sitting in his doghouse because he doesn't carry a "high-enough motor" and D'Antoni is unimpressed with his "in-game demeanor". All understandeable, but the kid's raw talent and size are a rare commodity these days and is the big reason why he has been hesitant to deal him so far.

According to the New York Post, the Knicks already have a contingent deal in place with Minnesota to acquire their 2011 First Round draft pick, which is pretty huge seeing as Minnesota is 10-30, a winning percentage that is 3rd to last in the NBA (Trailing the Cleveland Caveliers 8-30, Sacramento Kings 8-28) and could be a phenomenal draft pick. The team could then pursue a top Center or Forward in the draft, which Walsh acknowledges is their weak spot -- Basically, one or the other. They grab a power Forward and STAT plays Center -- they draft a defensive, rebounding Center and STAT moves back to Power Forward, his natural position. Amar'e Stoudemire, a.k.a. STAT, has played the season at Center.

The idea here is Donnie Walsh is a smart man, probably one of the brightest minds in the NBA. He knows what players want, what they will sacrifice to get what they want, and knows that all the cards are in his hand regarding Carmelo Anthony and will play them properly, not desperately. He has 4 players/prospects he can trade to Minnesota, Denver, or a 3rd team to acquire a draft pick or Carmelo Anthony -- rookie sensation SG Landry Fields, improving SF Wilson Chandler, SF/PF Danilo Gallinari, and PF Anthony Randolph.

I honestly believe at this point in the season that if D'Antoni is going to stand by his refusal to give Randolph playing time (10 games played in 2010-2011) that Walsh should acquire the top draft pick. He can bring in a power forward from a formidable spectrum of extremely talented players that could be in the draft:

Enes Kanter (PF/C) -Freshman - Kentucky
Jared Sullinger - Freshman - Ohio State
Derrick Williams - Sophomore - Arizona
Donatas Motiejunas - International - Lithuania
Trey Thompkins - Junior - Georgia

Now, while I am a huge fan of PG Raymond Felton, I have to at least assume that the Knicks will somewhat consider trading the PG to acquire a higher draft pick, maybe somebody along the lines of PG Kemba Walker out of UConn or Alec Burks from Colorado. Both would be a long-shot and are not among the areas of weakness for the Knicks; I am simply saying it should at least be looked at. If I had to choose, I'd stick with Felton, obviously. He works too well with Amar'e in the pick & roll, he has shown signs of an excellent jump shot from the perimeter and gets to the free throw line often. He doesn't try to drive to the hoop too much but knows the right times to. While turning the ball over has been a problem so far, he's countered that with the occasional rebound and averaging 8.9 assists per game. He's at the height of his career, and I believe that he should at least be explored as a trade option because now that he's averaging 18.3 points per game, I have to think he could draw a 1st round draft pick and [dare I say it] a 2012 2nd round draft pick. Maybe I'm giving the kid the benefit of the doubt because he may just be a product of D'Antoni's high-powered offense strategy.

Either way, I'm tired of watching the Knicks fork over 1st round pick after 1st round pick. I'd like to see them acquire a First Round draft pick from the Timberwolves. It will be a remarkable pick, easily Top-10. It still appears that Carmelo Anthony does not want to spend the remainder of his career in New Jersey -- and despite a new CBA taking away some serious money from him, maybe we don't give players enough credit and just assume they are all about the money. Maybe Carmelo truly will take the sacrifice of $15M to play for a solid contender in the East instead of the pretender in the New Jersey.

Peyton Hillis -- Good 2011 Season?

Something that came across my mind today was a runningback in Cleveland by the name of Peyton Hillis. He's an absolute bulldog and pretty physical for a white guy, I must say. Anyhow, he's a ferocious downhill runner who takes beating after beating. Kid popped out of nowhere thanks to RB injuries in the first 2 weeks of the season, and got a chance and lived up to it. Towards the end of the season he started to wear down and it was noticeable, he was putting up games like 22 carries for 128 yards and 3 TDs as well as like 5 catches for 68 yards during the middle part of the season, but towards the end you're seeing him take like 15 carries for like 40 fucking yards. Kid just was burned out from trying to knock over everyone this year, as well as trying to hurdle 6'5" defensive linemen.

But what really made me thing about his future was watching Eric Mangini talk about the NFL Playoffs this morning on ESPN. And before I go any further I'd just like to point out how dumb that is that Sportscenter would even consider bringing that idiot on set to talk -- it's almost worse than Matt Millen on Monday Night Football pre-game and post-game. So I'm watching him and I'm saying to myself "why are they talking to this guy? He had the most explosive and brutal RB that completely shocked us all and he still couldn't make this team somewhat good."

So when I thought of that it caused me to think of other recent power running backs who came from nowhere and dominated for a short period of time -- basically 1-3 seasons. The first two that popped into my head:

RB Brandon Jacobs of the New York Giants
RB Larry Johnson of the Kansas City Chiefs

Jacobs' story is simple. He burst out on the scene in 06 as Tiki's #2 guy. Tiki would take the brunt work and Jacobs would get about 6-8 carries per game, typically on short-yardage situations like 3rd & 1, 4th & inches, and goal line plays. he was huge. Anybody ever see that hit he put on LaRon Landry a few years back? Absolutely pulverized him. Ever since he started getting 15-20 carries per game he quickly wore out. Started getting all these nagging little injuries that slow down a big guy from all the big hits he takes, and ultimately is a has-been. He started trying to avoid contact and be more elusive to avoid the injuries -- which he did avoid this season but ultimately wasn't that good.

Larry Johnson is the big guy I want to emphasize on, though. Got the starting nod after Priest Holmes, one of the best to ever play the game, suffered that career-ending neck injury many years ago. Larry bursts onto the scene and in his first two full seasons puts up an astonishing 1750 yards and 20 TDs in 05, then 1789 yards and 17 TDs in 06. Problem was? He ran for almost 1800 yards that 06 season but his average yards per carry was mediocre 4.3. He had over 400 carries that year, and a big guy carrying the ball 400 times is scary... very scary. That is why he ultimately never had another 1000 yard season after two unforgettable years as a RB in Kansas City.

So that brings me to wonder how Peyton Hillis will play in 2011 and 2012. This season he took over the starting job for Jerome Harrison who had an injury early in the season -- Hillis got the ball 9 times in week one for 41 yards and a TD, as well as 4 receptions for 24 yards. His rushing average was just over 4.5. The following week he gets just 8 carries for 35 yards and a TD. Week 3 was his first starting game. The big guy racked up 144 yards on 22 carries and a TD, as well as 7 receptions for 36 yards. Suddenly, he's a house-hold name and Harrison unfortunately lost his job and could do nothing about. Hillis would finish the season having put up 5 100+ yard rushing games, as well as 4 games with 49 or more receiving yards.

He certainly has the potential to rack up a lot of yards but their new coach in 2011 is going to have to play his cards better. Hillis' receiving totals will only improve if McCoy progresses in his development, but will take a hit if the club has a breakout Wide Receiver. What I'm more concerned with is how the coaching staff will keep him rested, to utilize his strengths and make him a versatile weapon without taking too many hits. It all comes down to the passing game, otherwise the defense will load 9 men in the box and Peyton will get pulverized. The 25 year old Hillis has the world in his hands and will certainly be a hot Fantasy Football commodity next season due to his size and ability to reach the endzone, as well as his ability to take in 4 or 5 catches a game - Hillis has 61 receptions this year and he is a Running Back. Thats impressive.

My Prediction:

(approximate)
290 Carries
1,280 Yards
15 TDs
4.41 y/c

49 Receptions
395 Yards
3 TDs

A Ride on Sunset Boulevard

I recently stumbled upon a remarkable television series under rather inappropriate circumstances. Simply put, a blog I follow published a short clip of a sex scene from the show Californication starring David Duchovny, and I immediately began watching as much as I could per day on Megavideo.

I have absolutely no idea why it took my horny ass this long to stumble upon this gold mine, but I'm certainly glad that I came across it now. Maybe I haven't seen it because my parents only pay extra for HBO and Cinemax -- two channels we barely watch aside from Entourage. It's a show absolutely filled with writing, sex, relationships, more sex, drugs, infidelity, and ultimately even more sex, has become a sudden television favorite of mine.

The story-arc jumps around a bit, but nevertheless the acting is phenomenal, the bodies on the show are stupendous, and call me gay for saying this but old man Duchovny looks great. Don't get me wrong, I'm not gay, I just easily acknowledge how much better shape David is in at 50 than I am at 19.

Seriously, if you're a horn dog like me tune in to Showtime every Sunday at 9pm.

NFL Update: Jets over Colts - Seahawks upset Saints

There were two NFL games yesterday -- the first one ended with the Saints being upset by the 7-9 Seattle Seahawks which left me crying tears of joy, and the second one ended with Jets kicker Nick Folk kicking the second go-ahead field goal in the last minute of regulation -- which sent the Jets onto the next round to face the New England Patriots, and that game left me pissed off.

As a New Yorker I typically stand by the Jets if the Giants are out -- I'm true to my region/city. However, I am also true to not being an over-the-top ego and believing the world revolves around me, and thats why I was rooting for the Indianapolis Colts. I honestly just can't stand the Jets fans, who constantly talked trash about the Patriots this past week instead of worrying about a crucial game against the defending AFC Champions. The Jets fans are dead lucky Antonio Cromartie had a great kickoff return late in the game -- but part of the blame there must fall on coach Jim Caldwell of the Colts. First off, his clock management and timeouts was absolutely absurd and his inability to use his timeouts properly left him without a "freeze" for when K Nick Folk of the Jets kicked New York into Foxborough. He also made the mistake of not ordering a "squib" kick, which would have given the coverage team a better chance of avoiding a return past the 40 yard line. His inability to make important, obvious coaching moves is what cost this team the win; not to mention WR Blair White dropping a very catchable pass that would have sealed the Colts' 16-14 victory, or calling multiple 3rd and 7 run plays in the 4th quarter. Do it once, you're a smart coach and caught the defense off guard. Do it again and get stopped, and you just killed a great thing.

As for the first game yesterday, that game was shockingly interesting because nobody expected the Seahawks to make it a close game, let alone defeat the Saints. Now granted I'm sure a lot of people bet against the Saints due to the large point spread, but very few people expected the Seahawks to actually win the game. I mean holy cow what an excellent game played by the Seahawks. They clearly have defensive issues and if Tatupu misses next week's game against either the Bears or Falcons I can't envision that defense holding off either team's passing attack to advance to the NFC Championship Game. Nevertheless, I think this club is headed in the right direction. They went out there yesterday and simply played the way an NFL team plays in the playoffs. They threw in unique offensive plays and packages, put pressure on the QB, and left their fate in the hands of a veteran named Matt Hasselbeck. But most importantly, give credit to 2 Seahawks -- Coach Pete Carroll for putting 100% confidence in his players and leading them to shock all of us by defeating the defending Super Bowl champions, and give credit to RB Marshawn Lynch for possibly the best run I have ever seen. Lynch was relentless, breaking tackle after tackle, and utilizing the excellent blocking by the entire offense including offensive linemen running their hearts out down field and even QB Matt Hasselbeck getting in there to help Lynch into the endzone. That is teamwork -- that is how you win in the Playoffs. The Seahawks wanted it more, and they came more prepared -- it is that simple, and it is also proof why maybe we were wrong to suggest the playoff system needs to be changed. I'm still a believer that it should be changed, but my lord did the give me something to think about this morning.

NASA Reveals their List of Plausible and Non-Plausible Science Fiction Movies

Today NASA released two interesting lists of Science Fiction movies. One list is the 7 most plausible, and the other is the 7 least plausible. As I expected 2012 nailed the top of the least plausible list with outstanding glory, overtaking such films as Armageddon and Volcano. On the most plausible list, we're blessed with two many outstanding movies and two really good movies -- Gattaca and Jurassic Park.

Here's the complete two lists:

Least Plausible
1. 2012 (2009)
2. The Core (2003)
3. Armageddon (1998)
4. Volcano (1997)
5. Chain Reaction (1996)
6. The 6th Day (2000)
7. What the #$*! Do We Know? (2004)

Most Plausible
1. Gattaca (1997)
2. Contact (1997)
3. Metropolis (1927)
4. The Day the Earth Stood Still (1951)
5. Woman in the Moon (1929)
6. The Thing from Another World (1951)
7. Jurassic Park (1993)

Ironically enough NASA's most plausible list contains 7 movies, 3 of which focus on Aliens (Contact, The Day the Earth Stood Still, The Thing from Another World). It's pretty interesting that NASA thinks Dinosaurs may exist on an unknown island, and yet it's unlikely for a giant asteroid to come hurdling towards the Earth (Isn't that science's explanation for what killed off all the Dinosaurs? ). Enjoy the list. I agree with the least plausible list, and the most plausible list suggests that maybe NASA is trying to hint to us something about the possible existence of Alien contact.

Giants RB Brandon Jacobs Tells Media to F Off

On Monday after being eliminated from making the playoffs on Sunday, RB Brandon Jacobs, who has had a rocky recent two years with the Giants, put all his stuff in a black garbage bag and walked out of the locker room, but not before leaving his mark with the media.

The media was getting all around him asking him questions and being a bunch of d bags as always, so Jacobs told them off finally.
Click, click, click," he shouted at the crowd. "You're all taking pictures of Brandon Jacobs leaving, wondering if he's ever going to return. That will be your caption for tomorrow. Well, [expletive] you all."
Good for him. It's about time a player finally said what was on his mind. The damn media being all nosy and the worst part is this is New York... the Media probably was GOING to make that a headline for Wednesday's newspaper or something. Jacobs stopped it though in shear brilliance. Say something like that to the media and they practically cannot make that a headline the next day otherwise they look even worse than they did before. Reverse psychology. What a genius. Kudos to you Mr. Earth. Now figure out how to hold onto the ball and maybe I'll keep the Jacobs jersey I have.

New Years Day -- Twilight Zone Marathon

SyFy Channel does an annual New Years Eve/Day Twilight Zone Marathon, something I absolutely adore.

One of the best shows of all time, the original episodes that is, is in my opinion the epitome of fantastic writing. It shows me that us Humans do have the ability to devise outstanding stories, and that we have outstanding writing abilities not just in the bast but also in the present. It's pretty interesting because there are a few modern shows that remind me of shows of the past such as The Twilight Zone -- one of those shows is Fringe which airs on FOX. However this post is about The Twilight Zone and not Fringe -- that is something for another day.

To honor The Twilight Zone marathon, I've compiled a list of my personal favorite 10 episodes.

10. Mr Garritty and the Graves - S5 EP152 -- Starring John Dehner -- An truly strange premise of a traveler who comes a town claiming he will raise the 128 people from the dead who have a "score to settle" with the townsfolk, and "proves" it by showing one man return from the dead. To prevent him from raising the dead, all the people in town pay this person, a con man, large sums of money to keep the dead in their graves.

9. The Gift - S3 EP 97 -- Starring Geoffrey Horne -- An excellent example of man's fear of the truth and our inability to trust strangers comes to realization when a human-like alien crash-lands near a small town. The Alien is injured and a local doctor takes care of it, removing two bullets as well. When the man offers Pedro a "gift" sealed in a box, all hell breaks loose. This episode is a MUST watch because the ending will finally reveal the true nature of the "gift" and how important it is to our existence.

8. The Howling Man - S2 EP 41 -- Starring H.M. Wynant & John Carradine -- A darker, gloomier episode that forces the audience to decide as the episode progresses whether or not they believe the devil exists. It's an episode that dives into your feelings of sympathy for a lonely, peaceful looking man trapped behind a "staff", crying to be released. This episode was beautifully written and was one of the very few episodes in the series' early history to not be written by Rod Serling.

7. Nightmare at 20,000 Feet - S5 EP 123 - Starring William Shatner -- Don't let the name scare you away into thinking we love it just because of the star. While the name is now big, back then this was easily one of his greatest performances. Playing the role of a man back on a plane for the first time in six months due to a nervous breakdown, continues to disrupt the flight crew because he looks out the window and sees a gremlin pulling apart pieces of the wing. Everytime he alerts the crew, the gremlin jumps out of view, so nobody believes him. The pilot is thus forced to make an emergency landing due to an problematic passenger, and we learn the truth as to whether or not a gremlin was truly on the wing.

6. The Monsters Are Due on Maple Street - S1 EP 22 -- Still to this day it is unknown who the "monsters" refer to -- it is all left up to interpretation, which is the genius of how it was written. Filmed during a time when the Red Scare was still sharp in people's minds, the story tells a tale of a power outage on Maple Street in an unknown town, and shows how the people frantically begin to believe it is all due to a monster or even possibly aliens. The people begin to turn against one another and prejudice becomes the motive for destruction. The ending may startle you, but in a good way.

5. The Hunt -  S3 EP 84 -- Starring Arthur Hunnicut -- A slower, more peaceful and relaxed episode about passing the final test to heaven, and the importance of man's "best friend".

4. Miniature - S4 EP 110 -- Starring Robert Duvall -- A strange episode indeed, telling the story of a man who swears he sees a figure in a museum dollhouse come alive. Over the course of the episode he is struck by the doll's beauty. In the end, he finally joins his true "love", but the reason this episode is so great is the outstanding acting done by Duvall in this episode.

3. Third From the Sun - S1 EP 14 -- Starring Fritz Weaver & Edward Andrews -- I look back on this episode and about 3/4 of the way through it becomes apparent to me what might possibly be happening. But 50 years ago when this aired this was practically the definition of a "twist ending". The episode is based on a short story of the same name, so not all of the credit goes to Rod Serling. Nevertheless, a nuclear war is about to go down and two scientists smuggle their wives onto a spaceship (saucer) the government has been developing. They escape the planet just in time as the war begins, and then a horrifying prediction of our own possible fate is revealed.

2. Time Enough At Last - S1 EP 8 -- Starring Burgess Meredith -- This is one of the most famous and parodied episodes of the Twilight Zone series. A man played by Burgess Meredith just doesn't fit in with the people around him. He loves to read yet everybody else thinks his reading is a problem. When he gets stuck in the vault at the bank for which he works in, a nuclear holocaust occurs and he ventures from the vault to realize the world he once knew is diminished to rubble, and he is the only one left.

1. Living Doll - S5 EP 126 -- Starring Telly Savalas - This is without a doubt my favorite. There are so many incredibly written and acted episodes, and it is so difficult to create a top 10. But There is no doubt in my mind no episode better than the Living Doll, and maybe it's more personal. You see, the episode is about a man who is absolutely terrified by his little step-daughter's new toy "Talky Tina". She pulls the string and the doll says something cute. However, when noone else is around and the father pulls the string, the doll gives him a freakishly stunning death threat. Nothing is more captivating than the man tyring to get rid of the doll, the doll coming back and telling him "My name is Talky Tina, and I'm going to kill you."
